Coach Nuno Martins has started his activity as a basketball coach about 30 years ago.
Nuno Martins was the first in the Algarve to start with children aged from 5 to 8 years, in basketball practice.
The basketball project was achieved through a protocol between Câmara Municipal de Faro and basketball club Sporting Clube Farense.
Till that date, when things started, there was only an offer, for basketball practice, for kids from 11 to 12 years of age.
Due to professional reasons Nuno Martins interrupted his activity.
Returning to basketball coaching
Then he has returned to basketball coaching In 2012.
Specializes in baby basket (from 3 to 5 years old) and also in minibasket (from 6 to 11 years of age).
Although some argue that one can start earlier, coach Nuno Martins has another opinion.
The coach considers that only from the age of 3 there is really a true distinction, with psychomotricity or physical-motor expression.
That’s because you can already start working on the fundamentals of basketball.
With a methodology in which he defines a plan for the gradual development of the fundamentals for the group.
This way, the emphasis on individual follow-up of each child stands out.
Starts this new basketball project in September 2012.
It starts with 60 children, boys and girls, between 3 and 8 years of age.
Results exceeded all expectations.
General and individual goals have been exceeded.
Basket tournaments and new projects
During these 6 years in Faro, Nuno Martins organizes the Algarve Minibasket Cup tournament.
Having organized this tournament until its last edition on 2019, after that coach Nuno Martins joins a different project.
After these 6 years in Faro, Coach Nuno Martins headed in 2019 to Loulé, Quarteira and Almancil.
Having a partnership with the basket club CBQ Tubarões he continues his basketball coaching activity focused in minibasket.
With the club CBQ Tubarões aims to develop basketball throughout the county of Loulé.
It also intends to hold the largest international youth basketball tournament in Portugal, the Basket Youth Festival.
